25 Current, Future WCHA Players Selected in 2009 NHL Entry Draft

A total of 25 players with current or future ties to Western Collegiate Hockey Association member-team players were selected in the 2009 NHL (National Hockey League) Entry Draft, held this past weekend - June 26-27 - in Montreal, Quebec. Included in the total were four first round selections in defenseman Nick Leddy (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie HS), a University of Minnesota recruit taken by Minnesota at No. 16 overall, defenseman John Moore (Chicago, IL/Chicago-USHL), a Colorado College recruit chosen by Columbus at No. 21 overall, current Golden Gophers forward Justin Schroeder (So., Prior Lake, MN), the 2008-09 WCHA Rookie of the Year who was selected by Vancouver at No. 22, and defenseman Dylan Olsen (Salt Lake City, UT/Camrose-AJHL), a University of Minnesota Duluth recruit who was drafted by Chicago at No. 28.

41 Players Invited to 2009 USA Hockey Women's National Festival

USA Hockey has announced the 41 players selected to participate in the 2009 USA Hockey Women's National Festival, which will take place August 18-24 in Blaine, Minn. The USA Hockey Women's National Festival Roster includes 19 players with WCHA ties, either as former or current league student-athletes. The Festival will serve as the selection camp for the 2009-10 U.S. Women's National Team that will compete in the Qwest Tour, a 10-game domestic tour that begins Sept. 25 and ends just prior to the start of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.

Vogt Named Assistant Coach With Maverick Women's Hockey Program

Minnesota State women's hockey head coach Eric Means has announced that Shari Vogt has been named assistant coach. Vogt, a former All-American goaltender for the Mavericks, joins MSU's staff after spending a year as an assistant coach with the girls Prep 19U team at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribault, Minn. She also has been a lead instructor for The Goalie Club since 2003 and was an assistant coach for Mankato West High School in 2004-05.
