Fontaine's Four-goal Outburst Lifts Minnesota Duluth

What a difference one night can make. In the series opener against Michigan Tech last Friday night the University of Minnesota Duluth hockey team threw a free-wheeling attack but found virtually nothing would go into the net, and Tech snatched victory out from under UMD's nose. One night later, UMD junior Justin Fontaine had one of those magical nights that even the most gifted goal-scorers can only imagine and the Bulldogs not only returned but exceeded their previous high-flying form.

Denver Pioneers Rested, Ready for Fighting Sioux Series

The marquee match-up of the young WCHA season finds North Dakota invading Magness Arena in Denver to take on the DU Pioneers this weekend. Denver was the consensus pick to win the WCHA, and defending MacNaughton Cup champion North Dakota was a strong second choice, so this series could go a long way toward determining the early-season edge.

Bemidj State Women's Hockey Inks Four in Early-Signing Period

The Bemidji Sate University women's hockey team announced today the signing of Allie Duellman (Maplewood, Minn.), Alexandrea Elhert (Portage, Wis.), Emily McKnight (Roland, Manitoba) and Danielle Williams (Waconia, Minn.) to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period. Duellman, Elhert, McKnight, and Williams will join the BSU squad for the 2010-11 campaign.

Minnesota State Women Puck-Handlers Ink Seven New Skaters

Minnesota State women's hockey coach Eric Means has announced seven new Maverick Icers that will begin their Minnesota State campaign next season. Those who signed are defenseman Danielle Scholzen (Blaine, Minn.), forward Kari Lundberg (Woodbury, Minn.), forward Kelsie Scott (Souris, Man.), forward Nicole Germaine (Clarendon Hills, Ill.), forward Kathleen Rogan (Vancouver, BC), forward Tracy McCann (Lakewood, Ohio), and defenseman Elisabeth Hewett (Oak Bluff, Man).
