WCHA Press Releases

Statement from WCHA Chairman Dan White

Dear WCHA Community,

Over the past few days and months, racism has confronted America in real time. The death of George Floyd has sparked renewed attention to racism and the different ways it is manifested in our society. We also see that people of color, especially the African American community, are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Our student-athletes come from different races and socio-economic backgrounds, and every athlete, coach, and fan deserves to be treated equally. Intercollegiate sports brings people together and builds community in ways little else does.

Each of us shares the responsibility to reject racism and xenophobia. We have seen people coming together in communities across the nation and around the world to stand up against prejudice and violence in peaceful protest. As part of the WCHA community, I ask that we all reject racism in our communities and our universities.

There is much work to be done but the work will not do itself. We must do it together.
