This week, we are proud to honor Bowling Green fanatics, the Eboch family, as our WCHA Fans of the Week, Powered by E-Group.
More about the Eboch family…
Connection to Bowling Green:
I'm (Karen Eboch) an alumna (MBA '95, MOD '95), current student EdD Leadership Studies (ABD-- 2017 expected) and a faculty member in the College of Business with the Department of Management, teaching organizational behavior and supply chain management. My daughter Katherine is currently an MBA student (May 2017 expected) with a specialization in supply chain management.
We love Falcons hockey because:
As hockey fans, we were going to the games even when we weren't very good, for the love of the game. Remember when BGSU considered cutting the program back in 2009? We supported the "bring back the glory" campaign and have seen the team make tremendous gains since then; and, the crowds return. Over the years, I've also had the pleasure of getting to know a lot of the BGSU players in my classes, and they are all such great people on and off the ice (from the current roster that includes Pierre-Luc Mercier, Kevin Dufour, Jakob Reichert, Brett D'Andrea, Tyler Spezia, Sean Walker, Tomas Sholl and Chris Nell).
Our favorite hockey memory is:
The great fans we encounter from all the WCHA teams! We started going to the Ferris State games when we were CCHA rivals and quickly made friends with a number of their fans and even Brutus, their mascot. On our first trip to Big Rapids, at the Friday night game Brutus saw us in the crowd with our BGSU jerseys and put a FSU t-shirt on my husband, who happily played along. We brought a cookie cake to thank Brutus for the hospitality at the Saturday night game and found out it was his birthday so had a great mini celebration. We haven't missed the BGSU-FSU series since!
We enjoy exploring all the college towns on the road and talking with the fans that travel to Bowling Green. I just wish my teaching schedule allowed for the trip to Alaska so we could get to all the road games!
What we're most looking forward to about the rest of the 2016-17 season is:
Honoring the seniors at our final WCHA home series while securing home ice for the WCHA Tournament (hopefully!). Then, of course, the tournament play itself . . . does the season have to end?
Describe WCHA hockey in one word or phrase:
Falcontastic! Unfalconbelievable! Fast paced and fun!
Each week during the 2016-17 season, we will name one lucky winner the WCHA Fan of the Week, Powered by E Group.
