J.T. Brown - Freshman, Forward

University of Minnesota Duluth right winger J.T. Brown, who led all conference players with five scoring points and factored in on both game-winning goals in two conference road victories at Michigan Tech last weekend, has been named the Red Baron® WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Jan. 25, 2011.
A 5-10, 178-pound freshman from Burnsville, Minn., Brown figured in on five of UMD's eight goals during its Jan. 21-22 sweep of the Huskies in Houghton, Mich. He scored the game-winning goal and assisted on two other goals last Friday in a 5-0 victory, with his deciding goal 4:07 into the second period snapping an eight-game pointless skid. He then helped set up the Bulldogs' first goal in the rematch last Saturday, drawing an assist on Jack Connolly's winner, then capped off the 3-0 triumph by tallying late in the third period. In addition to his five scoring points in the series, Brown also earned a +5 plus/minus rating and fired five shots on goal.
Through 25 games this season, Brown ranks fourth among WCHA newcomers in points overall with 21 (7g, 14a). He was also honored back on Oct. 19 as the league's rookie of the week for his efforts vs Providence.

Defensive Player of the Week
Scott Gudmandson - Senior, Goaltender

Veteran goaltender Scott Gudmandson of the University of Wisconsin, who stopped 71 of 74 shots on goal for a .959 saves percentage and surrendered just two even-strength goals while helping the Badgers to a two-game conference sweep over visiting Minnesota State, has been named the Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Jan. 25, 2011.
A 5-10, 185-pound senior from Sherwood Park, Alberta, set a career high last Friday (Jan. 21) for saves in a win with 37, including 16 in the third period, as Wisconsin prevailed 3-2 over the Mavericks at the Kohl Center. One of the two goals he surrendered came on a first period power-play as the Badgers were outshot 39-30 for the game. Then in last Saturday's (Jan. 22) 2-1 UW victory, Gudmandson stopped 34 of 35 Maverick shots, again stopping 16 of 17 shots in the third period. The Badgers were outshot 35-29 for the game and 17-4 in the third period. In addition, Gudmandson also helped Wisconsin hold MSU to one power-play goal in nine opportunities.
Through 21 games and 1223:55 minutes played this season, Gudmandson leads all WCHA goaltenders with a 1.76 goals-against average and .935 save percentage in all games, ranking second and fourth in the nation, respectively. In league games, his 1.94 GAA is second while his .933 save percentage is first. He also boasts four shutouts on the year.

Rookie of the Week
Michael Young - Freshman, Defenseman
University of Nebraska at Omaha
University of Nebraska Omaha defenseman Michael Young, who had the finest weekend of his young career as the visiting Mavericks split a two-game conference series at then No. 2-ranked North Dakota, is the Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week for Jan. 25, 2011.
A 6-3, 213-pound freshman from Calgary, Alberta, Young was a catalyst at both ends of the ice for UNO, tallying two shortanded goals and four points, firing six shots on goal and earning a +2 plus/minus rating. In last Friday's (Jan. 21) opener in Grand Forks, he scored his first collegiate shorthanded goal and added two assists in UNO's 8-4 win over the Fighting Sioux. The following night, he scored yet another shorthanded goal in a 4-2 loss. He finished the series tied for the team-high in points and the team lead with a +2 rating.
As a rookie blueliner, Young has played in 23 of his team's 24 games and has produced 10 points (2g, 8a).
