Denver's Jason Zucker has been named National Rookie of the Month

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. Miami senior forward Andy Miele is the Hockey Commissioners' Association National Division I Player of the Month for February.

The 5-foot-8, 175-pound forward led the RedHawks to an unbeaten record (5-0-1) in February by scoring four goals and adding eight assists, while boasting a +5 rating. Miele fi nished the regular season fi rst in the country with 61 points and 42 assists with his 1.79 points-per-game average also fi rst nationally. He captured the CCHA scoring title with 56 points, while his 40 assists were more than anyone else had in points.

Miele recorded 12 points in just six games with his 2.00 points-per-game average fi rst nationally for February. He potted four goals, including one in each of his last three games, and scored both on the power play and short-handed while also tallying a game winner. Miele's 1.33 assists-per-game average was second in the country and tops in the CCHA for the month. His 149 career points rank 10th all-time in Miami history, while his 94 career assists are seventh all-time. He became the fi rst RedHawk to top the 60-point plateau in a season since Randy Robitaille in 1996-97, and his 61 points tie for sixth on Miami's single-season list. Miele completed regular-season play on a 13-game point streak.

The Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., native, who played junior hockey for the Chicago Steel (USHL), had a pair of five-point weekends, the fi rst coming in a sweep of Michigan on Feb. 4-5. He tallied two points in Friday's series opener and dished out a trio of helpers in Saturday's victory. His point streak continued against Western Michigan with a point in each game, including the game-winning goal Feb. 12. He fi nished off the month after a bye week with a two-assist, three-point effort Feb. 25 at Lake Superior and another multi-point showing the next night as the RedHawks completed another sweep.

Jason Zucker, a freshman forward at the University of Denver, is the unanimous choice as HCA National Rookie of the Month for February.

The Las Vegas, Nev., native, who was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the second round, 59th overall, of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, led all NCAA rookies with 12 points on three goals and nine assists in the month of February with a +7 rating. He tallied at least one point in every game, including four multi-point games and one two-goal game as Denver went 4-4-0 in the month.

Zucker leads the WCHA in scoring (36 points) and is tied for first in goals (20) in 24 league games. He leads WCHA rookies in goals and scoring for league and all games. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound freshman is riding a career best nine-game point streak (4-10-14). He is second among NCAA rookies in points per game (1.19) and tied for second in goals (20).
