North Dakota enters the playoffs as the top seed in the WCHA

MADISON, Wis. – The first round of the men's Western Collegiate Hockey Association playoffs, consisting of six best-of-three series and scheduled for Friday, March 11, Saturday, March 12 and Sunday, March 13 (if necessary), are set.

WCHA regular season/MacNaughton Cup champion and No. 1 seed North Dakota (26-8-3) will host No. 12 seed Michigan Tech (4-28-4) at Ralph Engelstad Arena, No. 2 seed Denver (21-10-5) will host No. 11 seed Minnesota State (14-16-6) at Magness Arena, No. 3 seed Nebraska Omaha (21-13-2) will entertain No. 10 seed Bemidji State (12-17-5) at Qwest Center Omaha in a series between the league's two new member teams, No. 4 seed Minnesota Duluth (20-9-6) will host No. 9 St. Cloud State (15-16-5) at AMSOIL Arena, No. 5 seed Minnesota (16-12-6) welcomes No. 8 Alaska Anchorage (14-17-3) to Mariucci Arena, and No. 6 seed Colorado College (19-16-3) will host No. 7 Wisconsin (20-14-4) at Colorado Springs World Arena.

The results on the final day of the regular season saw North Dakota win 11-2 at Michigan Tech to complete a sweep, Nebraska Omaha capture a 5-2 victory at Minnesota Duluth for a weekend split, visiting Minnesota upend Bemidji State 3-2 (ot) for a three-point series, host Wisconsin defeat Colorado College 3-1 for a split, visiting Alaska Anchorage skate past Minnesota State 4-1 for a sweep, and host Denver prevail 3-2 over St. Cloud State for a split. UAA gained the No. 8 seed over SCSU by virtue of more league wins.

Following the first round of WCHA playoffs, the six winning teams will be re-seeded No. 1 thru No. 6 according to their regular season finish and then will advance to the 2011 Red Baron™ WCHA Final Five, set for Thursday, March 17, Friday, March 18 and Saturday, March 19 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
