Senior defenseman Brad Hunt scored a goal for the Beavers

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-8-4, 4-5-3 WCHA) suffered its first loss of the 2011-12 season at home on Saturday, Dec. 3, with a tough 3-1 loss to Bemidji State University (6-8-2, 4-6-2 WCHA) at the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Beavers charted two goals in the first period and then added one more goal in the third period to ice the WCHA victory despite being outshot 34-14 by the Huskies in the contest.

St. Cloud State started things quickly in the first period with a goal by freshman forward Nick Oliver (Roseau) at 3:25 of the first period. This was Oliver's second goal of the season and his second goal of the series against BSU. He was assisted on the play by senior forward Jordy Christian (Moorhead) and freshman forward Brooks Bertsch (Dubuque, Iowa). Bemidji State did not hesitate to get back into the game with a goal at 4:12 of the first period by Jordan George as assists were provided by Aaron McLeod and Matt Carlson. The Beavers scored the eventual game winner at 11:55 of the first period with a goal by Brad Hunt. BSU's Jeff Jubinville earned the solo assist on the goal, which was Hunt's 100th career point as a college player.

Both teams remained scoreless in the second period as the Huskies outshot the Beavers 10-1. in the final period, BSU iced the game with a power play marker by Illo Radoslav at 16:49 of the third period with an assist from Brance Orban.

BSU goalie Dan Bakala earned #1 star honors with 33 saves in the contest for the Beavers. SCSU's Ryan Faragher (Fort Frances, Ontario) was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 11 saves on the night.

On the power play, SCSU was 0-of-5 and the Beavers were 1-of-3.

The Huskies will have a bye week on Dec. 9-10, before returning to WCHA action on Dec. 16-17 with a pair of games at the National Hockey Center against the University of Denver. Game time on Dec. 16 is 7:37 p.m. and the game on Dec. 17 will start at 7:07 p.m.
