Senior forward Colin Campbell scored a goal and an assist for the Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE- Lake Superior defeated Alaska Anchorage 5-3 in the first of two home games in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekend series.

The Lakers (13-13-1, 9-10-0) were lead offensively by their top line performers of freshman Alex Globke (10-17--27), and seniors Colin Campbell (10-11--21) and Dan Radke (5-13--18). Globke was stellar in the performance racking up three assists. Campbell and Radke each tallied a goal and an assist in the victory.

The Lakers took a 5-2 lead in to the third period after three goals by the Lakers (capped off by a goal at the buzzer) and a goal by the Seawolves all with under four minutes to play in the period. The Lakers also received goals from Ian Miller (4-2--6), Zach Sternberg (5-11--16), and Andrew Dommett (6-3--9).

Between the pipes, Lake Superior was guided by senior Kevin Murdock (6-8-0) who turned aside 23 of the 26 shots on net. Chris Kamal (6-4-1) was credited with the loss for the Seawolves and was replaced by Michael Matayas (2-2-1) following the fourth Laker goal by Dommett.

The victorious Lakers will be facing the Seawolves once Saturday evening (Feb. 8) in game two of the "Whiteout Weekend". Saturday's game will also be honoring Gil Somes, former equipment manager for the Lakers.
