Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. - Lake Superior State ends with a split against Alaska with a 3-2 overtime loss Saturday. The Lakers are 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play.
Senior goalie Kevin Kapalka suffered his first loss of the season making 37 saves for LSSU. Kapalka is 2-2-1 overall.
UAF opened the scoring at 4:54 with a power-play goal in the first period. Sophomore defenseman Eric Drapluk (3-1--4) tallied the Lakers first goal, a power-play goal, at 17:38 of the first from junior defender Kevin Czuczman (3-5--8).
At 4:27 of the second the Nanooks took a 2-1 lead. Freshman forward Alex Globke (5-6--11) forced the sudden-death overtime with a goal from Czuczman and senior forward Dan Radke (1-8--9) at 18:36 of the third.
The Lakers were unable to fight off the Nanooks, Joey Davies tallied the game-winning goal at 2:41 of the overtime.
John Keeney (3-1-1) recorded the win for Alaska making 27 saves. The Lakers and Alaska went 1-for-5 on the power-play.
