NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team was swept by 15th-ranked Notre Dame on Saturday night, falling 5-0 at Compton Family Ice Arena.
The Chargers (1-23-0) couldn't pull off one of their strong Saturday results against the talented Irish (12-8-1) on their home ice, suffering their eighth-straight defeat.
Notre Dame scored three goals in the first period and two more in the second. UAH had a few good looks on goal, but those shots either found the body of the ND goaltender or sailed just wide of the target.
Jeff Costello scored two goals, while Bryan Rust, Sam Herr and Vince Hinostroza also scored for the Irish.
ND held a strong 43-13 advantage in shots on goal. UAH finished 0-for-2 on the power play while Notre Dame went 1-for-4.
Carmine Guerriero picked up the loss in net, finishing with 38 saves. Steven Summerhays notched the win for ND, tallying 13 saves on the night.
The Chargers return to the Von Braun Center next weekend, Jan. 17-18, when they play host to Alaska Anchorage in WCHA action. The series will also be Military Appreciation Weekend, as all veterans and kids will be admitted free on both nights. UAH will also wear its camouflage uniforms on both nights, with the jerseys being auctioned off on Saturday.
