MADISON, Wis. - The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team dropped a tough 5-0 decision on Friday night to Wisconsin at the Kohl Center.
UAH (1-18-0) played a strong second period, shutting down Wisconsin (9-5-1) to set up a tight third period and a chance to climb back. The Badgers wouldn't allow the visitors back though, giving them their ninth victory over the Chargers in as many games and an unblemished record at home this season.
Wisconsin scored two goals in the first period, as Keegan Meuer and Morgan Zulinick pushed the hosts out front. Meuer scored on a gift from the Chargers, while Zulinick scored a nice centering pass in the low slot.
It was a strong performance in the second period for the Chargers, but the energy spent would show through in the third period as UW pushed three more across the line.
Matt Larose (0-10-0) got the start in goal and was credited with the loss, while Carmine Guerriero finished the game. Larose tallied 23 saves and Guerriero recorded 27 of his own.
Wisconsin finished 0-for-5 on the power play, with UAH going 0-for-2. The Badgers dominated in shots on goal with a 55-9 final line.
The two teams will do battle again tomorrow night. The puck will drop at 8 p.m. central time back at the Kohl Center.
