BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. - The Bowling Green University ice hockey team lost to the U.S. National Development Program Team (U18) on Friday night, 6-1, in an exhibition affair. Playing in front of 1,764 Falcon faithful at the BGSU Ice Arena, the Falcons' senior forward Bryce Williamson scored the lone goal, while Tomas Sholl (10-of-13) and Tommy Burke (10-of-13) split time in the net in the losing effort.
The Orange and Brown held USNTDP scoreless on the power play throughout the night, killing all six opportunities the U.S. Development team in the game. Bowling Green, meanwhile, went 0-for-5 on the night with the on-ice man advantage. U.S. also outshot the Falcons by a 26-24 margin on the night.
USNTDP scored the first three goals of the contest, netting three-straight even-strength goals through the first period. U.S. Development team's Louis Belpedio scored the first goal at 4:59 of the first period, followed by Alex Tuch at 16:06 and Anders Bjork at the 17:03 mark in the opening act.
The Falcons finally broke through USNTDP's netminder Blake Weyrick at 3:22 of the second period, putting the game at 3-1. Williamson received a pass across the slot in the left circle and fired a wrist shot towards a screen in front of the net. The puck went underneath Weyrick's right arm and into the back of the net for BGSU's lone goal of the game.
Bowling Green was held scoreless for the remainder of the tile, giving the U.S Development Team U18 the victory in the exhibition contest.
The Falcons will be back in action next weekend against Western Collegiate Hockey Association foe Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich. The weekend series will mark the final road trip for the Orange and Brown, as the puck is set to drop at 7:07 p.m.
