SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State suffered its first Friday night loss with a 5-3 deficit to Ferris State. The Lakers are 9-5-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Ferris is 12-2-2 overall and 9-0-2 in the WCHA.
Ferris jumped on the puck early in the game scoring three goals by 5:01 of the first. Gerald Mayhew scored the game-winning goal for FSU at 13:37 of the first period giving the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.
Senior forward Colin Campbell (6-6--12) scored LSSU's first goal, a power-play goal, at 8:26 of the second from senior forward Dan Radke (3-10--13) and junior forward Stephen Perfetto (1-10--11). FSU's final goal of the game was scored at 14:59 of the second from Matt Robertson.
Junior defenseman Kevin Czuczman (5-8--13) brought the Lakers within three of FSU at 6:10 of the third from freshman forward Ian Miller (0-1--1) and senior defenseman Zach Sternberg (2-5--7).
LSSU's final goal was scored at 10:09 of the third. Sophomore defenseman Eric Drapluk (5-3--8) tallied a power-play goal from junior forward Chris Ciotti (1-7--8) and freshman forward Garret Clemment (3-6--9).
Senior netminder Kevin Kapalka 13 saves for the Lakers in 42:48 minutes, allowing 4 goals. Senioir goaltender Kevin Murdock (4-2-0) was credited with the loss, playing only 14:59, and made nine saves for the Lakers. LSSU was 2-for-6 on the power-play.
The Bulldog's CJ Motte (12-0-2) tallied 39 saves. Ferris was 1-for-3 on the power-play.
