Senior defenseman Matt Bruneteau had a goal for the Lakers

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Lake Superior State opened regular season play with a non-conference victory over Robert Morris of Atlantic Hockey. The Lakers defeated RMU 3-1 Friday at the Taffy Abel Arena.

At 16:01 of the first period freshman forward Alex Globke (1-1--2) netted his first collegiate goal and goal as a Laker, a power-play goal. Globke added one assist on senior defenseman Matt Bruneteau's goal.

Bruneteau's goal (1-0--1) determined the game for the Lakers, at 1:03 of the second Bruneteau netted the game-winning goal from senior forward Dan Radke (0-2--2). Radke tallied his two assist for the night.

At 19:39 of the second period the Colonials came within one of the Lakers, netting a short-handed goal. LSSU's junior forward Chris Ciotti (1-0--1) answered back with LSSU's second power-play goal of the night.

Zach Sternberg (0-2--2) collected two assisted while Andrew Dommet notched a single assist for the Lakers.

Senior goaltender Kevin Murdock (1-0-0, 0-0-0 WCHA) earned the win making 26 saves for the Lakers in 60-minutes of play. Robert Morris' Terry Shafer stopped 32 shots on goal.

The Lakers were 2-for-7 on the power-play and held the Colonials to 0-for-7.

LSSU is back in action tomorrow night at 5:07 against Robert Morris.
