HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team lost to Ferris State by a score of 3-2 on Saturday night at the Von Braun Center in the WCHA series finale. UAH dips to 8-20-4 (7-16-1 WCHA), while FSU improves to 14-18-1 (11-13-0 WCHA).

UAH went on the board first at 12:19 of the first as senior Jeff Vanderlugt netted his sixth goal of the season on the power play just in front of the crease. Vanderlugt was assisted by Chad Brears, who notched his 10th assist of the 2014-15 campaign.

Ferris State battled back to tie it at the 16:59 mark in the first period off the stick of Dom Panetta, which was an unassisted marker. The 1-1 tie would hold through the first 20 minutes.

The Bulldogs' Kyle Schempp gave FSU a 2-1 lead after scoring at 10:43 of the second period, the lone goal of the middle frame. FSU then jumped out of the gate in the third period extending the lead to 3-1 on a Sean O'Rourke tally at 3:10 of the third period.

The Chargers were able to close the gap at 10:08 of the third as Bulldogs' goalie CJ Motte let a shot by Matt Salhany slip under his pads, with Alex Carpenter sneaking through to tap the puck in for his third goal this season. Salhany was credited with his sixth assist.

Ferris State went on to win by a score of 3-2, despite the Chargers putting a total of 13 shots on net in the third period. Overall, UAH managed 27 shots on goal, led by Frank Misuraca with six.

Sophomore Carmine Guerriero's record drops to 8-13-3 on the season. The UAH netminder totaled 26 saves, notching 10 saves apiece in the first and second period.

UAH will look ahead to the final home series of the season next weekend, when Alaska Fairbanks visits the Rocket City for a pair of WCHA contests. Puck drops at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night.
