Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State scored four unanswered goals in the final period in claiming a 6-3 victory over Bemidji State in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played in Mankato Friday.

The host Mavericks opened up a 2-0 first-period lead after junior forward Dylan Margonari scored on a breakaway at 1:50 and junior forward Teddy Blueger tallied on a shorthanded chance at 9:16. Bemidji State cut into the lead on a power play goal at 19:23 when Matt Prapavessis scored to make it 2-1.

BSU took a 3-2 lead by scoring early (:26, John Parker) and late (15:01, Cory Ward) in the second period, but the Mavericks erupted for four unanswered goals in the final period to pull away from the Beavers.

Junior forward Bryce Gervais, who has held a hot hand as of late, tied the game on a shot that bounced in off a BSU defender's skate at 2:52 with the Mavericks on the power play. Then, at 8:35, senior defenseman Brett Stern floated a shot from the point that beat Beaver netminder Michael Bitzer high on the glove side as the Mavericks regained the lead. Gervais got his second on the night with a power play goal at 14:46 to make it 5-3 and senior forward Matt Leitner sealed the win with an empty-net marker at 19:25.

Gervais scored twice and added a pair of assists in the game and now has seven points in the last three games. Leitner ended up with a goal and two assists and Margonari and Blueger both chipped in with a goal and an assist.

The Mavericks went two-for- four in power play chances on the night, while BSU was one-for-five with the man advantage in the game. Minnesota State held a 33-15 advantage in shots on goal in the game and junior netminder Stephon Williams, who relieved Cole Huggins at the start of the third period, stands 6-1-0 in 2014-15.

Minnesota State, which stands 6-3-0 for the season and is 4-1-0 in WCHA games, closes out the two-game league series with Bemidji State (3-4-0, 2-1-0 WCHA) with a 7:07 p.m. face-off at Verizon Wireless Center scheduled.
