MARQUETTE, Mich. - Northern Michigan University hockey out shot Bemidji State 37-21 in game two against the Beavers but fell by a final of 5-1. The Beavers scored three unanswered goals in the second period to pull away from NMU. The Wildcats held BSU 0-4 on the power play in the game only allowing one shot.

Northern Michigan came out shooting in the first as they outshot Bemidji 14-6 in the opening period. A pair of Beaver penalties at the end of the period allowed for the Wildcats to open the second period with a 5-3 man advantage. NMU was unable to convert on the power play and shortly after Bemidji got on the board at the 3:37 mark. Charlie O'Connor would score the goal for Bemidji from outside the left circle for his 10th goal on the season.

Shortly after, Phillip Brewer gave Bemidji a two-goal advantage scoring with 16:47 remaining in the period after he found a blocked shot in front of the crease. Brendan Harms scored the third goal of the period for Bemidji sneaking one past the glove of sophomore goalie Michael Doan.

Northern Michigan got on the board in the third period when sophomore forward John Siemer took a loose puck from the boards at the blue line and fired one past the glove of Bemidji goalie Michael Bitzer from just outside of the right circle for his third goal of the season.

The Siemer goal cut the NMU deficit to 3-1 but a pair of Bemidji goals late in the third sealed the 5-1 final.

Doan finished the game with 16 saves, while Siemer led the Wildcats with six shots on net.

Northern Michigan hits the road next weekend as they travel to Bowling Green Feb. 20-21 with puck drop scheduled for 7:07 p.m. for both games.
