BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- The Bemidji State University men's hockey team dropped a nonconference contest to St. Cloud State University, 6-3, Friday at Sanford Center. Gerry Fitzgerald led the Beavers in the game, notching his first collegiate goal to go with an assist.

In addition to G. Fitzgerald's two-point night, Graeme McCormack contributed a pair of assists, while brother Myles Fitzgerald and Nate Arentz scored BSU's other goals.

M. Fitzgerald opened the scoring for BSU tipping a pass from G. Fitzgerald past SCSU goaltender Charlie Lindgren just 2:36 into the game. Despite registering just six shots in the frame, the Beavers controlled play and held a 1-0 lead as they headed to the locker rooms for the first intermission.

The Huskies evened the score just 1:46 into the second period when Jimmy Murray posted his first goal of the season, but the Beavers came charging back. Arentz charged the net as the Beavers broke out of the zone and swatted a Phillip Marinaccio pass out of mid-air for his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Andrew Prochno would tie the score as 2-2 at the 6:46 mark of the second, and the score would remain tied until 2:54 into the third period when SCSU's Joey Benik found the back of the net to give the Huskies their first lead, 3-2.

G. Fitzgerald again evened the score when he took passes from Brendan Harms and Matt Prapavessis to net the Beavers only power-play goal of the evening.

Less than two minutes later, Tim Daly and SCSU would capitalize on the Beavers' being a man shot to set up a scoring play. Daly scores as Brett Beauvais' penalty expired to give the Huskies a one-goal lead with 11:16 to play.

BSU looked to have tied the score yet again, when Marinaccio was on the doorstep to pot a rebound, but the goal was disallowed.

SCSU would get an empty-net, power-play goal goal with 29 seconds left to go up 5-3 and added an even-strength goal with eight seconds on the clock to complete the 6-3 win.

BSU and SCSU each finished the game 1-for-3 on the power-play.

Michael Bitzer took the loss for BSU. He collected 23 saves behind a defense that blocked 23 shots, but allowed five Huskies' goals. He falls to 2-5-0 on the season.

Bemidji State falls to 3-10-0 overall and will attempt to snap a seven-game losing streak tomorrow at 7:07 p.m. when it again hosts SCSU for the nonconference series finale.

BSU Notables:

Arentz's sixth goal of the season not only leads the team, it stands as a career-high for the sophomore.

Gerry Fitzgerald recorded his first collegiate goal in his 13 game as a Beaver. He now has four points (1g-3a).

With an assist in the game, Brendan Harms has now scored in each of the Beavers' last five games to extend his team-high scoring streak.

BSU's 19 shots stand as the Beavers' second-lowest shot total of the season. BSU only managed 15 shots at Minnesota State Nov. 7.

BSU's 23 blocked shots in the game stands as its second-largest block total of the season. The Beavers totaled 24 shots at Bowling Green Nov. 21.

Following the loss, the Beavers' losing streak is extended seven games. BSU's last win came on Nov. 1.

The last time Bemidji State was held without a win in seven consecutive games was an eight-game streak (0-4-4) from Nov. 29 2013 to Jan. 4, 2014.
