MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State fired 42 shots on goal in claiming a 2-0 victory over Alaska Anchorage in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Mankato Friday.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 20 minutes, but at 15:03 of the second period senior forward Bryce Gervais lifted a backhander past Olivier Mantha high on the gloveside for his fifth goal of the year.
Freshman Chandler Madry took a nice pass from Michael Huntebrinker before wiring a shot over Mantha's shoulder at 15:29 of the third period to seal the victory. The goal is Madry's first career goal.
Minnesota State freshman netminder Jason Pawloski, who started his fourth consecutive game, stopped all 12 shots in getting his first career shut-out. He upped his record to 4-0-2 on the season with the win.
Gervais, who finished with a game-high nine shots on goal, got his tenth career game-winning goal in the game.
The Mavericks went zero-for-six in power play chances on the night, while the Seawolves, who saw their record fall to 6-5-2 overall and 3-3-1 WCHA, were zero-for-three with the man advantage.
Minnesota State, which stands 7-6-2 overall and owns a 6-1-2 WCHA mark, closes out the two-game league series with UAA Saturday night with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled.
