BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - A night after the Bulldogs took 49 shots and earned a tie, Ferris State was able to crack the Alabama Huntsville Chargers for four goals in route to a 4-1 win on Jan. 16 at Ewigleben Ice Arena.

Ferris State struck first, when senior Simon Denis scored his fourth of the season on the power play, assisted by junior forwards Gerald Mayhew and Jared VanWormer.

The Bulldogs worked the puck down low, and VanWormer put one off of Charger goaltender Carmine Guerriero. Mayhew found the puck and made a no-look backhand pass to Denis, who shot it into the gaping cage.

Alabama-Huntsville evened the contest at 1-1 when Josh Kestner scored his fifth of the season at 7:43 of the second period from Kurt Gosselin on a one-timer from between the circles.

Ferris State sophomore forward Tyler Andrew scored his third of the year to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1, in what ended up as the game-winning goal at 14:31 of the second period. Senior defenseman Sean O'Rourke earned his sixth assist of the season on the play, as he took a shot from in front of the Ferris State bench that Andrew deflected past Gurriero.

It was a big night for Ferris State senior defensemen, as Brandon Anselmini scored his first of the year from sophomore forward Andrew Mayer and junior forward Kyle Schempp (9). Mayer was skating down the right wing when he lifted a pass over a Charger stick and landed it right in front of a charging Anselmini, who put it in the back of the net at 19:14 of the second period.

Junior forward Chad McDonald scored his sixth of the season on the power play, from junior defenseman Ryan Lowney and Anselmini.

McDonald got a pass from Lowney at the top of the zone and took a slapshot that deflected off a defender and past Guerriero to give the Bulldogs their second powerplay goal of the night.

Ferris State finished with 38 shots to Alabama-Huntsville's 21.

The Chargers took nine penalties for 29 minutes in PIM's, though 17 of those went to Brennan Saulnier, who took a roughing the goalie penalty, as well as 15 minutes and a game misconduct for a contact to the head penalty.

The Bulldogs finished 2-7 on the powerplay, and had 14 penalty minutes on seven infractions.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 10-9-5, and take over sole possession of fourth place in the WCHA with 19 points.

Ferris State returns to action when they travel to Bemidji State University to take on the Beavers on Jan. 22 at 8:37 pm ET from the Sanford Center.
