MANKATO, Minn. - Seventh-rated Minnesota State got four points from senior forward Zeb Knutson as the Mavericks overpowered Alaska Anchorage 7-1 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game played in Mankato Friday night.

Goals from forwards Dallas Gerads and Marc Michaelis staked the Mavericks to 2-0 first-period lead. Gerads, a freshman from Blaine, Minn., took the puck in the far corner and went behind the net before circling in front and firing a wrist shot past Olivier Mantha at 10:52 for his second goal of the season. Michaelis, a sophomore from Mannheim, Germany, tallied his 11th goal of the season on a one-timer that snuck inside the right post with the Mavericks on the power play at 12:38.

Minnesota State built on its lead by scoring three times in the second period. Freshman forward Reggie Lutz took a pass from Zeb Knutson on a two-on-one chance and beat Mantha at 1:32 for his fifth goal of the season. It became a 4-0 Maverick lead at 4:31 on a Knutson one-timer and then a 5-0 lead at 14:30 after freshman center Jake Jaremko wired a shot from the right circle for his ninth of the year.

Knutson's second goal of the game at 1:07 into the third made it a 6-0 lead and when senior center C.J. Suess connected for his 15th of the year at 5:55 the lead grew to 7-0. The goal by Suess is the 50th of his Minnesota State career. The Seawolves spoiled Connor LaCouvee's shutout bid at 12:27 off of a power play goal by Alex Butcher.

Knutson ended the game with four points on two goals and two assists. Michaelis had a three-point night on a goal and two assists, while freshman blue liner Connor Mackey and junior defenseman Daniel Brickley both chipped in with a pair of helpers. LaCouvee, who stopped 17 shots, upped his record to 14-3-0 on the season with tonight's victory.

The Mavericks, who outshot UAA by a 43-18 margin in the contest, have now won their last four games. With an overall record of 20-7-0 for 2017-18, Minnesota State has won at least 20 games in a season for six straight years (something that's been accomplished for the first time in program history).

The Mavericks and the Seawolves close out the two-game WCHA set with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled for Saturday at Verizon Center in downtown Mankato.
