BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- Myles Fitzgerald had two goals and Michael Bitzer stopped all 19 shots he faced to lead Bemidji State University to a 3-0 victory over Ferris State University Saturday at Sanford Center.

After a 2-2 draw Friday, the Beavers and Bulldogs played nearly two full period of scoreless hockey Saturday despite having several good scoring opportunities, but junior defender Dan Billett got BSU on the board with his first goal of the season at the 18:32 mark of the second period. Freshman Charlie Combs started the play behind the net and Gerry Fitzgerald found Billett on the point for the laser.

Ferris State's Trevor Recktenwald was whistled for hooking as time expired on the second period setting the Beavers up with a full two minutes of power-play time and they took advantage. 1:38 into the third, Brendan Harris found M. Fitzgerald on the doorstep for a power-play goal. It was the only special teams goal the Beavers would muster as the team finished the night 1-for-4 on the man advantage.

With time running out in the third frame, the Beavers caught the Bulldogs pressing. G. Fitzgerald made a nifty pass to brother Myles, who finished the 2-1 for his second goal of the evening.

On the other end of the ice, the Beavers team defense kept the pressure off of Bitzer most of the night, but the senior all-American goaltender did the dirty work to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard and secure his second shutout in six starts this season. He improved to 3-1-2.

Bemidji State, 3-1-2; 1-0-1-1 WCHA) now sets its sights on Alaska as the Beavers travel to Fairbanks for a WCHA match up with the University of Alaska, Nov. 3-4. Each game is set for a 10:07 p.m. (CST) opening face off.
