MANKATO, Minn. - Seventh-rated Minnesota State resumed action Friday by hosting WCHA-foe Northern Michigan. The visiting Wildcats used a pair of third-period tallies in upending the seventh-rated Mavericks, 4-3, snapping Minnesota State's four-game winning streak.

Freshman center Jake Jaremko scored his fifth goal of the year when he fired a shot past NMU netminder Atte Tolvanen at 4:23 of the opening frame as the Mavericks jumped out to a 1-0 lead. The visiting Wildcats answered at the eight-minute mark on a goal off of the stick of Troy Loggins.

The two teams traded goals again in the second period with Northern Michigan taking a 2-1 lead at 17:28 when Darien Craighead deposited the puck into the net after finishing off a tic-tac-toe passing play with linemates Mitchel Slattery and Adam Rockwood. Freshman defenseman Riese Zmolek jumped into the play before taking a cross-ice feed from Parker Tuomie to score his second goal of the year at 17:46 and the game stood tied 2-2 at the end of two periods of play.

Northern Michigan took a 3-2 lead at 3:20 of the third period when Robbie Payne found himself all by himself at the side of the net and made not mistake in tallying his 16th goal of the year. Parker Tuomie registered his fifth goal of the year at 14:50 to knot the game at 3-3, but Joseph Nardi collected his fourth goal of the season at 19:24 with what proved to be the game-winner for the Wildcats.

Senior netminder Connor LaCouvee, who was credited with 14 saves in the contest, stands 9-3-0 on the year.

Freshman center Jake Jaremko, who finished the game with a goal and an assist, has extended his point-scoring streak to ten games during which he's tallied five goals and 12 assists for 17 points. Parker Tuomie had a goal and an assist and now has a point-scoring streak of five games. Zmolek had a goal and an assist for his first career multiple-point game.

The Mavericks saw their record fall to 13-6-0 overall and 11-4-0 WCHA with tonight's loss. Both teams finished zero-of-two in power play chances in the contest and the game was played in front of a crowd of 3,837.

The two teams close out the two-game WCHA series Saturday night with a 7:07 p.m. face-off scheduled for Verizon Center in downtown Mankato.
