Mankato, Minn., --- 15th-rated Minnesota State hosted the University of Regina (Sask.) in college hockey exhibition action Sunday at Verizon Center in downtown Mankato with the Mavericks skating to a 8-0 victory over the visiting Cougars.

The Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 first-period lead on goals by freshman forward Jake Jaremko and senior forward C.J. Suess.

Minnesota State scored five unanwered goals in the second period in making it a 7-0 margin. Nick Rivera, Riese Zmolek, Max Coatta, Brad McClure and Jaremko all found the back of the net in the middle stanza.

Freshman forward Walker Duehr made it an 8-0 margin with his third-period marker to close out the scoring in the game.

Freshman defenseman Connor Mackey finished with three assists and was #3. McClure had a goal and two assists in the win.

Minnesota State, which outshot Regina by a 444-25 margin in the contest, used three goaltenders with Jason Palwosking finishing with ten first-period saves,Connor LaCouvee with four stops during the course of his second-period appearance and Aaron Nelson finished up with 11 saves.

The Mavericks start the 2017-18 season next weekend with St. Cloud State visiting Verizon Center for a nonconference game scheduled for Saturday.
