BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- Seventh-seeded Lake Superior State University went toe-to-toe with the second seed Bemidji State University to stretch the series to three games and in game three Sunday were within striking distance until he final horn sounded, but BSU held on for a 3-1 victory to win the best-of-three series and advance to the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's semifinal round, March 13-15.
Ethan Somoza, Adam Brady and Owen Sillinger supplied the Beavers with scoring, while goaltender Zach Driscoll stopped 25 of the 26 shots he faced to propel BSU to its 22nd win of the season (22-10-4) and help BSU advance to the second round of the WCHA Playoffs for the first time since 2017.
After the remaining four teams are reseeded by the league, BSU will hold on to the No. 2 seed and will host the No. 3 seed Bowling Green State University in the semifinal round. The best-of-three game series is set for a 7:07 p.m. opening faceoff Friday, with a 6:07 p.m. start set for Saturday and, if necessary game three will begin at 6:07 p.m. at Sanford Center.
Tickets for the series will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday morning in the Sanford Center box office. Season ticket holders will have util Tuesday at 5 p.m. to purchase tickets for the series before their regular seat will be released for sale to the general public.
