OMAHA, Neb. - Brock Montpetit had two goals and Bryce Aneloski added a pair of assists as the UNO hockey team beat Mercyhurst 5-1 in the first game of the Mutual of Omaha Stampede.

The Mavericks will play Colgate for the tournament championship on Saturday night at 7:07 p.m. The Raiders beat Robert Morris, 3-1, in the opening game.

Montpetit bookended the scoring. He netted the first goal of the game, tapping in a feed from Matt White at 5:03 of the first period.

He also tallied a powerplay goal late in the third period to close the scoring. He scooped up the rebound of a shot by White and poked it past goalie Max Strang to make it, 5-1.

UNO broke the game open in the second period. Mike Young fired a low shot past Strang just 44 seconds in. Later, Josh Archibald squeezed home his first collegiate goal from a sharp angle to make it 3-0 after two.

Mercyhurst got one goal back midway through the third when Grant Blakey fired a shot past John Faulkner for a powerplay goal at 10:46.

Johnnie Searfoss restored the three-goal lead when snapped home the rebound of a shot by Zahn Raubenheimer at 14:01.

UNO has now won five straight season openers.
