Jan. 16, 1970:
Jim Lang's goal at 3:15 of the third period is first goal in school history but MSU loses its first game, 8-2 to St. Cloud State.
Jan. 24, 1970:
Dave Kramer records the first hat trick in school history, leading MSU to its first-ever win, a 5-2 victory over UW-Stout.
Feb. 5, 1971:
Greg Tagaros scores the 100th goal in school history at 15:47 of the third period, the final goal in an 8-0 win over Iowa State.
Jan. 12, 1974:
Tom Dougherty registers a goal and an assist to help MSU to its 50th win, 3-2 vs St. Cloud State.
Jan. 17, 1975:
Chuck Eyberg's second goal, at 16:51 of the second period, gives MSU a 5-2 lead enroute to a 9-4 win over Macalester and is the 500th goal in school history.
Jan. 14, 1977:
Bill Essel scores two goals to lead MSU to its 100th win, a 4-2 victory over UW-Stout.
Jan. 28, 1977:
Casey Kenevan records the 1,000th goal in school history in a 9-5 win over St. Cloud State.
March 3, 1978:
making their first post-season appearance, MSU posts a 7-3 win over Illinois-Chicago on two third period goals by Steve Forliti.
March 18, 1978:
Dave Pilot stops 33 shots and Marc Peckham scores into an empty net with :05 to play to secure a 5-3 win over Elmira as MSU finishes third in its first NCAA tournament appearance.
Nov. 16, 1979:
John Passolt scores three goals and five points in leading MSU to its 150th victory, an 8-3 win over Hamline.
Dec. 7, 1979:
Paul Mattson scores a school-record six goals in a 13-2 rout of UW-Eau Claire...Steve Forliti also sets school records for assists (7) and points (9) in a game.
March 22, 1979:
the Mavericks drop a 6-4 game to Lowell to finish second at the NCAA Div. II championship.
Feb. 16, 1980:
Steve Forliti's goal at 1:40 of the third period is the 1,500th goal in MSU history and sparks a five-goal outburst as the Mavericks rout UW-River Falls, 11-4.
March 16, 1980:
Steve Carroll's 42 saves enable the Mavericks to claim their first NCAA title with a 5-2 win over Elmira in the Division II championship.
Feb. 7, 1981:
a 6-4 win over St. Cloud State gives MSU and head coach Don Brose their 200th win.
Nov. 19, 1982:
the first of Pat Carroll's three goals at 18:38 of the first period is the 2,000th goal in school history and helps MSU to a 9-1 win over St. Olaf.
Feb. 19, 1983:
Rob Harrington stops 39 shots and Pat Carroll scores four goals as Brose and MSU record their 250th win with a 7-3 victory over UW-River Falls.
Feb. 5, 1985:
Erik Evans scores the 2,500th goal in school history at 17:56 of the third period to clinch a 5-3 win over Hamline.
Dec. 20, 1985:
Matt Mountain's two third period goals lead the Mavericks to their 300th win, a 4-2 victory over St. Scholastica.
March 15, 1986:
Dan Horn scores a pair of goals to enable MSU to post a 6-5 win over St. Thomas in the first game of its NCAA quarterfinal series, giving Don Brose his 300th career victory.
March 21, 1986:
the Mavericks fall 6-0 to Rochester Institute of Technology in the NCAA Division III national tournament third place game.
Jan. 23, 1988:
Derek Cooper's two goals lead the Mavericks to their 350th win while Mark Kasner scores the final goal of the 8-2 win over UW Eau Claire to record the 3,000th goal in school history.
Feb. 15, 1991:
Bill Rooney and Dan Brettschneider each score two goals as MSU records its 400th win with a 4-2 victory over UW-Stevens Point.
Nov. 1, 1991:
Dan Brettschneider scores the 3,500th goal in school history, but the Mavericks open the season with a 5-2 loss at Alaska Anchorage.
March 16, 1991:
the Mavericks lose 6-2 in the NCAA Div. III championship game to UW-Stevens Point.
Jan. 13, 1992:
MSU announces the intention to elevate the hockey program to NCAA Division I.
Jan. 24, 1992:
a 4-2 win over UW-Superior, spearheaded by Dan Brettschneider's two-goal effort, enables Brose to become the 14th coach in NCAA history to record 400 career wins.
Sept. 30, 1992:
the Minnesota State University Board denies MSU's attempt to elevate the program to NCAA Division I level.
Oct. 30, 1992:
MSU begins play as a NCAA Division II independent with game at Ferris State.
Nov. 25, 1994:
Brian Lyke and Ryan Rintoul both record hat tricks as MSU wins its 450th game by a 9-1 count over St. Scholastica...those two and Alex Wheaton combine to set a school record by closing out the game with three goals in a :38 second span.
Feb. 3, 1995:
Chris Hvinden christens the new Mankato Civic Center with a goal at 1:58 of the first period in MSU's 6-3 win over Alabama-Huntsville...Ryan Rintoul's goal at 6:55 begins a four-goal third period for the Mavericks and is the 4,000th goal in school history.
July 17, 1995:
Mankato business group presents NCAA Division I proposal to MSU.
Dec. 20, 1995:
the board of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) approves MSU's bid to become an NCAA Division I member.
Mar. 2, 1996:
the Mavericks close out 27 years as an NCAA II-III member with a 4-3 home loss to eventual Div. II national champion Alabama-Huntsville.
Oct. 11, 1996:
MSU kicks off its first season as an independent member of NCAA Division I with an away game at Ferris State...MSU defeats FSU the next night (5-4 ot) to record the first win as a member of Division I...the Mavericks go on to a 17-14-3 record for 1996-97.
Nov. 2, 1996:
Forward Aaron Fox scores a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the Mavericks earn their first Division I home win, a 5-3 victory over Ferris State.
April 24, 1997:
MSU makes presentation during Western Collegiate Hockey Association annual meetings in Florida.
June 10, 1997:
announcement is made that the WCHA has invited MSU to participate in the 1997-98 post-season tournament and with its first completely Division I schedule in place, MSU accepts.
Oct. 17, 1997:
Des Christopher stops 36 UMD shots as the Mavericks open the '97-98 season by handing the Bulldogs a 2-1 loss in Duluth...MSU goes on to record wins over Ferris State and Denver during the season.
March 14, 1998:
MSU drops 5-4 decision to North Dakota in WCHA playoff action to finish 15-17-6 for the season...including the two playoff games with UND, the Mavericks finish 3-13-2 in games vs WCHA teams.
May 1, 1998:
theWCHA announces that MSU's application for membership has been accepted and the Mavericks will begin playing a full conference schedule in 1999-2000.
Oct. 23, 1998:
MSU downs Canisius 11-3 as head coach Don Brose claims his 500th career win.
March 12, 1999:
a goal by Andy Fermoyle in OT gives the Mavericks a 3-2 win over No. 1-ranked North Dakota in the first round of the WCHA playoffs...MSU drops the next two games to finish with a 18-16-5 mark.
Jan. 22, 2000:
Eric Pateman stymies top-ranked Wisconsin with 39 saves as Mavericks claim 3-0 home win.
Jan. 29, 2000:
Andy Fermoyle's goal at 2:01 of overtime gives the Mavericks their first-ever win over UM.
Feb. 14, 2000:
Don Brose announces he will retire at the conclusion of the season, ending his 30-year career as MSU's hockey coach.
Feb. 26, 2000:
a school record and standing-room only crowd of 5,144 watch the Mavericks and No. 2-ranked North Dakota battle to 1-1 overtime draw in the Civic Center.
March 11, 2000:
Minnesota State-Mankato records a 3-2 win to sweep visiting Alaska Anchorage in first round WCHA playoff action and earn a trip to the WCHA Final Five.
March 16, 2000:
Minnesota claims a 6-4 Final Five victory to end MSU's season...the avericks finish '99-00 with a 21-14-4 mark...Brose finishes his tenure as head coach with a 536-327-72 all-time mark and ranks seventh on all-time NCAA coaching wins list.
March 27, 2000:
assistant coach Troy Jutting is named the new head coach of the Mavericks.
