Worcester, Mass. - The St. Cloud State men's hockey team (17-16-2, 12-11-5 WCHA) completed its 2002-03 season with a tough 5-2 loss to New Hampshire in the NCAA Northeast Regional, which was played at the Worcester Centrum Center on Friday, March 28, in Worcester, Mass.

UNH struck early in the game with a goal by Colin Heminway at the :10 mark of the first period. SCSU charged back at the 8:11 mark of the first period with a power play goal by Ryan Malone as Joe Motzko and Matt Hendricks gained asssits on the play. For Malone, it was his 16th goal of the season and 36th point. At the time, SCSU had a two-man power play advantage.

UNH regained the lead at 18:47 of the first period with another power play goal by Heminway. At 1:20 of the second period, UNH moved up 3-1 as Preston Callendar scored. Once more, SCSU moved within one goal as Jeff Finger scored his fifth goal of the season with an assist from Hendricks at 3:53 of the second period. The period's scoring was closed out by UNH as Sean Collins scored a power play goal at 7:08 of the second.

In third period, both team's displayed solid defensive work until UNH notched a power play goal at 12:08 by Callendar. SCSU outshot UNH 37-30 in the game and 19-6 in the third period. Jake Moreland was the goalie of record for SCSU with 25 saves and Mike Ayers had 35 for UNH. On the power play, SCSU was one of six and UNH was 3-of-9. The game marked SCSU's sixth NCAA tournament game and the Huskies' fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA playoffs -- one of only three teams in the nation to accomplish this feat.
