MADISON, Wisc. ­ 2003 NCAA regional tournament competition continues on Saturday (March 29) with the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's top three regular season finishers still in the mix in MacNaughton Cup (regular season) champion Colorado College, Broadmoor Trophy (playoff) champion University of Minnesota, and Minnesota State University.

At the West Regional on Saturday at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn., No. 1 seed Minnesota (25-8-9) takes on No. 2 Ferris State (31-9-1) in the championship game at 4:00 pm CT, with the winner earning a berth in the NCAA Men's Frozen Four in Buffalo, N.Y., in two weeks.

At the Midwest Regional at Yost Ice Arena in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday, No. 1 seed Colorado College (29-6-5) faces off against No. 4 seed Wayne State (21-16-2) at 12 Noon ET.

And at the NCAA East Regional at Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., No. 4 seed Minnesota State (20-10-10) hits the ice against No. 1 seed Cornell (28-4-1) at 12 Noon ET.

The Golden Gophers earned a place in the West Regional championship game after a 9-2 victory over No. 4 seed Mercyhurst on Friday night while Ferris State skated past North Dakota, 5-2. For Minnesota, the line of left wing Grant Potulny (three-goal hat trick), center Gino Guyer (regional record five assists), and right wing Barry Tallackson (one goal, two assists) combined for four goals and seven assists as the Golden Gophers outshot their opponents, 56-18, before a near capacity crowd of 9,554.

For North Dakota against Ferris State, center David Lundbohm and defenseman Ryan Hale both scored goals and the Fighting Sioux owned a 46-27 advantage in shots on goal, but the Bulldogs hit on two of three power-play chances and had 44 saves from goaltender Mike Brown.

At the Northeast Regional at Centrum Centre in Worcester, Mass., No. 4 seed St. Cloud State fell to No. 1 seed New Hampshire, 5-2, while No. 2 seed Boston University downed No. 4 seed Harvard, 6-4. For the Huskies, center Ryan Malone and defenseman Jeff Finger scored goals and SCSU outshot the Wildcats, 37-30. UNH hit on three-of-nine power-play chances and had two goals each from right wing Colin Hemingway and left wing Preston Callander. Attendance Friday night at Centrum Centre in Worcester was 9,024.
