MADISON, Wis. - St. Cloud State University right winger Matt Hartman, who paced the Huskies offensively in a two-game conference sweep over visiting Alaska Anchorage last weekend, has been named Red Baron WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Feb. 6-12, 2006.
Hartman, a 6-1, 196-pound sophomore from St. Cloud, Minn., scored three goals, fired six shots on goal and earned a +4 plus-minus rating as the Huskies posted 4-2 and 6-1 victories over UAA last Friday and Saturday to extend their winning streak to six games, improve to 10-1-1 overall since Dec. 3, and move into sole possession of fourth place in the WCHA.
Hartman scored twice last Friday (Feb. 3) night in the 4-2 win at the National Hockey Center, including a go-ahead goal in the first period and an insurance goal in the third period. He then followed that up with another goal on Saturday (Feb. 4) evening, scoring his team's third marker of the game in a 6-1 victory.
On the 2005-06 season, Hartman has produced seven goals and three assists for 10 points in 24 games played.
St. Cloud State, now 16-9-3 overall and 11-8-1 in conference play, next plays host to defending WCHA co-champion Colorado College on Friday (Feb. 10) and Saturday (Feb. 11) at the National Hockey Center.
Also nominated for the offensive award this week were Joey Crabb, F, CC; and Taggart Desmet, F, MTU.

MADISON, Wis. - Michigan Tech University goaltender Michael-Lee Teslak, who stopped 78 shots on goal and blanked his opponent on all nine of their series power-play chances while helping his team to a conference road split at Minnesota State last weekend, has been named Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Feb. 6-12, 2006.
A 6-2, 175-pound freshman from Fernie, B.C., Teslak has also earned the WCHA Rookie of the Week award on two occasions this season -Jan. 2 vs Michigan State and Jan. 23 vs Alaska Anchorage.
Teslak made 40 saves in a 4-0 setback to the host Mavericks last Friday (Feb. 3) night at Midwest Wireless Civic Center and then came back to stop 38 of 40 shots on goal last Saturday to backstop the Huskies to a 3-2 WCHA victory.
Teslak, who sports a 7-9-2 record overall, a 3.45 goals-against average and a .908 saves percentage, currently leads all WCHA rookie netminders in saves (621) and tops all Division 1 first-year players in saves per game (32.7).
Michigan Tech, sporting a 3-1-2 mark over their past six league games, returns home this week to play host to No. 1-ranked and WCHA-rival Minnesota on Friday (Feb. 10) and Saturday (Feb. 11) at John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
Also nominated for the defensive award this week were: Jack Hillen, D, CC; and Aaron Brocklehurst, D, SCSU.
Red Baron/WCHA Rookie of the Week
Nick Kemp

MADISON, Wis. - University of Minnesota Duluth right winger Nick Kemp, who factored in on three of his team's four goals in a 4-1 upset victory over league-leading and visiting Wisconsin last Saturday night, has been named Baron WCHA Rookie of the Week for Feb. 6-12, 2006.
A 6-1, 210-pound freshman from Hermantown, Minn., Kemp assisted on each of the Bulldogs' first two goals in the game - including teammate Mason Raymond's eventual game-winner in the second period - and then scored a power-play goal himself in the third as UMD snapped a seven-game winless streak with the triumph over the No. 4-ranked Badgers before a sellout crowd of 5,370 at the Duluth Entertainment & Convention Center.
In addition to his three points, Kemp also earned a team-high +3 plus-minus rating in the series.
On the season, Kemp has now scored seven goals and set up four others for 11 scoring points while playing in 29 of the Bulldogs' 30 games.
Minnesota Duluth is idle this week before resuming WCHA action on Feb. 17-18 when the Bulldogs hit the road to take on North Dakota.
