Red Baron® WCHA co-Offensive Players of the Week
Evan Kaufmann
Jr., RW, Minnesota
and
Justin St. Louis
So., LW, Michigan Tech
MADISON, Wisc. - A pair of wingers whose offensive heroics led their respective teams to key victories over the weekend - Evan Kaufmann of the University of Minnesota and Justin St. Louis of Michigan Tech University - have been named Red Baron Pizza WCHA co-Offensive Players of the Week for March 6.
Playing against each other in a regular-season ending league series at UM's Mariucci Arena last Friday (March 2) and Saturday (March 3), both players came up big in notching their first collegiate hat tricks.
Kaufmann, a 5-9, 167-pound junior from Plymouth, Minn., led the Golden Gophers with four goals and one assist in the series, including three scores on March 3, fired 10 shots on goal and earned a +3 plus-minus rating. His goal at 17:14 of the second period last Friday proved to be the game-winner as host Minnesota recorded a 3-1 victory over the Huskies that clinched their second straight WCHA championship.
St. Louis, a 6-3, 195-pound sophomore from Calgary, Alberta, scored his first collegiate hat trick last Saturday as well, leading Michigan Tech to a 5-4 upset win over the WCHA-champion Gophers. The win was the Huskies' 16th (16-15-5) of the season - the most since 1997-98 - and enabled them to finish sixth in the WCHA, their highest league finish since a fourth in 1992-93.
St. Louis scored Tech's first three goals, a game-opening tally at 6:03 of the first, a shorthanded goal at 11:10 of the first, and then completed the hat trick with a goal at 6:36 of the second that put Tech up 3-1. In addition to his three goals, St. Louis fired four shots on goal and earned a +2 plus-minus rating.
