MADISON, Wisc. - A total of eighty-eight (88) student-athletes, representing all 10 Western Collegiate Hockey Association-member institutions, have earned recognition on the men's 2006-07 All-WCHA Academic Team, announced today (March 9) by the league office. Fifty of the 88 student-athletes are repeat honorees from last season.
"On behalf of the entire membership of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, I want to commend each and every one of these 88 student-athletes for their outstanding academic accomplishments," said Commissioner Bruce M. McLeod. "They can take a great deal of pride in the fact that they have excelled both in the classroom while also competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics."
To earn a position on the annual All-WCHA Academic Team, member-team student-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1) have completed at least one year of residency at present institution prior to the current academic year; 2) have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) for the previous two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall grade point average is at least 3.00 for all terms at his present institution. The conference has recognized an All-WCHA Academic Team each season since the league instituted the honor beginning in 1984-85.
