St. Cloud, MN -- St. Cloud State University head coach Bob Motzko has been named the Inside College Hockey 2005-06 Coach of the Year. This elite award is presented annually by InsideCollegeHockey.com, an ESPN.com Associate, and it recognizes the top men's NCAA Division I hockey coach in the country. The award selection was made by Inside College Hockey editors and staff, with input from media and coaches from around the country.

A first-year coach at St. Cloud State, Motzko led his alma mater to a 22-16-4 overall record in 2005-06. In the rugged WCHA, the Huskies posted a 13-13-2 record and advanced to the championship game of the WCHA Final Five tournament. The Huskies staged an impressive turnaround in 2005-06, as they improved from a 14 wins (14-23-3) in 2004-05 to 22 wins this winter. In the second half of the 2005-06 season, SCSU was consistently ranked among the nation's top 20 NCAA Division I teams, and the Huskies are currently ranked #14 in the USCHO.com poll and #15 in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll.

A 1987 graduate of St. Cloud State, Motzko was named head coach at SCSU in September 2005. For his efforts, Motzko was named the WCHA Co-Coach of the Year along with Minnesota's Don Lucia. He was also named as a 2005-06 finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, which is presented by the American Hockey Coaches Association to the nation's top NCAA Division I men's ice hockey coach.

Before his move to SCSU in the summer of 2005, Motzko served as an assistant coach at Minnesota from 2001-05. From 1998-2001, Motzko served as the head coach and general manager with Sioux Falls of the USHL, and from 1987-1991, Motzko was the head coach and general manager with North Iowa of the USHL. From 1994-98, Motzko served as an associate coach at Miami University, and he was an assistant coach at Miami from 1991-93. He also served as an associate head coach at Denver from 1993-94.
