COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Hockey today announced the addition of seven players to the U.S. Men's National Team that will compete at the 2006 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship May 5-21 in Riga, Latvia. The new faces join the 15 players previously named to the roster. Team USA plays its first preliminary-round game of the IIHF World Championship against Norway on Friday, May 5 at 9:15 a.m. EDT.

Among the players joining Team USA are U.S. Men's National Team veterans Adam Hall (Kalamazoo, Mich./Nashville Predators/Michigan State University), Ryan Suter (Madison, Wis./Nashville Predators/University of Wisconsin) and Yan Stastny (Quebec City, Quebec/Providence Bruins/The Ohio State University). Hall will be taking part in his fourth consecutive IIHF World Championship. Suter and Stastny, meanwhile, will skate for the U.S. Men's National Team for the second straight year.

USA Hockey also named four players that will be making their first appearance on the U.S. Men's National Team, including defensemen Mike Komisarek (West Islip, N.Y./Montreal Canadiens/University of Michigan) and Freddy Meyer (Sanbornville, N.H./Philadelphia Flyers/Boston University); and forwards Phil Kessel (Madison, Wis./University of Minnesota) and R.J. Umberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Philadelphia Flyers/The Ohio State University).

Named to the original roster from the WCHA were North Dakota's Drew Stafford, Colorado College alum Mark Cullen and St. Cloud State alum Ryan Malone.

Following its game against Norway on May 5, the United States will play two additional preliminary-round games against Denmark (May 7) and Canada (May 9) before the qualification round begins.

NOTES: All Team USA games will be audiocast live on usahockey.com with Clay Matvick calling the action ... The average age of Team USA is 24.4 years old ... The United States defeated Slovenia, 6-0, Tuesday (May 2) in an exhibition game in Jesenice, Slovenia ... Hall (2000, 2001), Kessel (2005, 2006), Komisarek (2001, 2002), Suter (2003-05) and Umberger (2001, 2002) have all played for Team USA in the IIHF World Junior Championship, while Kessel (2004 and 2005), Komisarek (2000), Meyer (1999), Suter (2002) and Umberger (2000) have competed for Team USA at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship ... Mike Eaves (Madison, Wis.), head coach of the 2006 NCAA champion University of Wisconsin Badgers, was named head coach of the 2006 U.S. Men's National Team on April 12. Keith Allain (Centerville, Mass.), who was recently named the head men's ice hockey coach at Yale University and Jay Leach (Snellville, Ga.), assistant coach of the Washington Capitals, will serve as the team's assistant coaches.
