St. Cloud, MN -- The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team recently announced its team award winners for the 2002-03 season. Senior forward Joe Motzko (Bemidji), the team's leading scorer this season with 17-25--42 points, was named the Frank Brimsek award winner as the team's Most Valuable Player. Motzko ended his career at SCSU ranked as the team's fourth leading scorer with 142 career points. His 90 career assists rank third in team history and he also ranked 10th with 52 career goals. Motzko also received the inaugural St. Cloud Times Star of the Season honor.

Senior forward Jon Cullen (Alexandria), a two-time team captain, won the Brendan J. and Vernie McDonald President's Award for the team's outstanding student-athlete and he was named the LeRoy Radovich award winner as the team's outstanding senior player. To complete his award hat trick, Cullen gained the team's Sam LoPresti award (most determined player) for the third consecutive season. Cullen ended his 2002-03 season with 16-21--37 points. His 113 career points places him 13th in the team records and he also had 69 career assists and 44 career goals.

Senior Jake Moreland (Grand Forks, N.D.) was named the team's Dave Torrey award winner as the outstanding goalie for 2002-03. Moreland was 14-9-1 this season with a 3.04 GAA and a .911 saves percentage. In his career, Moreland posted a .910 saves percentage (3rd best in team history) and also had a 2.79 GAA (3rd best in team history).

Sophomore forward Garrett Larson (Park River, N.D.) was named the team's William Radovich award (Most Improved Player) winner for the second consecutive season. Larson scored two goals for the Huskies this season in 16 games played. The award list was completed by first year forward Joe Jensen (Plymouth/Osseo H.S.), who gained the Roland Vandell Award as the team's Outstanding First Year Player. Jensen ranked seventh on the team and lead SCSU's first year players in scoring with 9-9--18 points this year.

The Huskies charted a 17-16-5, 12-11-5 WCHA record this season under the leadership of head coach Craig Dahl. SCSU also gained its fourth consecutive NCAA tournament bid this year, making it one of only three teams (along with Maine and Michigan) in Division I college hockey to accomplish this feat.
