COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo­ - Seniors Brett Sterling (Pasadena,CA) and Taylor Jaramillo (El Prado, NM) and have been named recipients of the annual Van Diest and Laura Golden Awards and as Colorado College's top male and female student-athletes among the 2006 graduating class.

The awards were presented on May, 9 at an honors convocation at Shove Chapel.

Sterling, a two-time First-Team All-American and top-10 finalist for college hockey¹s Hobey Baker Memorial Award, became just the fourth CC player in history to reach the 100-goals plateau for his career after scoring 31 in 2005-06. He tied for the national lead with 17 power-play tallies and was second with eight game winners. The team MVP led the Tigers with 55 points overall for the campaign and finished his collegiate career with 184, tying him for 10th place on the program¹s all-time chart. He ranks third all-time in career goals, with 108. He earned Academic All-America honors as a junior in 2004-05, and has been nominated again this spring. Sterling, who will graduate next week with a bachelor¹s degree in economics, also served on the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).

Jaramillo, who will graduate on May 22 with a bachelor of science degree in Spanish- Hispanic Studies, finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle at the recent 2006 NCAA Division III Women's Swimming & Diving Championships to earn All-America honors for the second time in her collegiate career. She also was 27th in the 100-yard freestyle at nationals after winning regional titles in both events at the Liberal Arts Championships, where she finished her career undefeated in both events. She set three school records this season, as an individual in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and while anchoring the 800 free relay. She leaves CC with her name on three individual and three relay standards overall. Her fourth-place finish at the NCAA Division III meet was the highest ever by a Tiger.

The Van Diest Award has been presented annually since 1936. The Laura Golden Award originated in 1981 and has been won every year except for 1982 and 1995.
