MADISON, Wisc. - A total of 58 student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent through May 28th to attend Western Collegiate Hockey Association-member teams beginning with the 2003-04 season. The recruits hail from nine states (Alaska, 1; California, 3; Colorado, 2; Illinois, 3; Michigan, 1; Minnesota, 18; New York, 1; North Dakota, 4; and Wisconsin, 4) and six provinces (Alberta, 8; British Columbia, 5; Manitoba, 2; Nova Scotia, 1; Ontario, 3; and Saskatchewan, 2).
Two signees Ryan Potulny and Ryan Suter are being honored by USA Hockey on June 13-14 during the 2003 USA Hockey Annual Congress at the Sheraton Colorado Springs Hotel and the Colorado Springs World Arena. Potulny, who signed with University of Minnesota, is the recipient of the USA Hockey Junior Player of the Year Award, while Suter, who signed with University of Wisconsin, is the recipient of the Bob Johnson Award for excellence in international hockey competition during a specific season of play. Potulny had a USHL-high 78 scoring points during the regular season for the Clark Cup-champion Lincoln Stars. Suter was the leading scorer among defensemen for the U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2002-03 and starred in three international tournaments the Four Nations Tournament, the 2003 IIHF World Junior Championship, and the 2003 IIHF World Under-18 Championship. Potulny and Suter will be honored during The President's Awards Luncheon on Friday, June 13, and a special gala celebration on Saturday, June 14, in honor of outgoing USA Hockey President Walter L. Bush, Jr.
