MADISON, Wis. - Head coach Mike Eaves and the University of Wisconsin released the 2005-06 men's hockey schedule Wednesday, in conjunction with the announcement of the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic, to be played Feb. 11 at Lambeau Field.
The 35-game slate features 14 meetings against teams that took part in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, including 12 contests against last season's Frozen Four participants.
The docket boasts numerous special events with the College Hockey Showcase, the Badgers Hockey Showdown, the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic and an exhibition contest against the USA Hockey Under-18 Team dotting the calendar. The Badgers also play host to the 2006 NCAA Men's Frozen Four at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee in early April.
Wisconsin opens the 2005-06 season on Oct. 7-8 by welcoming St. Lawrence, from the ECACHL, to the Kohl Center. After a bye week, UW begins WCHA play at St. Cloud State on Oct. 21-22. The home portion of the WCHA schedule begins the following weekend when Alaska Anchorage comes to the Kohl Center on Oct 28-29.
After visiting 2004-05 national runner-up North Dakota on Nov. 4-5, Wisconsin returns to Madison to host Colorado College and Minnesota State the following two weekends. Wisconsin then travels for the annual College Hockey Showcase the weekend of Thanksgiving. The Badgers will visit Michigan State (Nov. 25) and Michigan (Nov. 26) for the annual event that dates back to 1993. The Wolverines ended the Badgers' season in 2004-05 at the NCAA Midwest Regional. The Showcase precedes the renewal of the Wisconsin-Minnesota rivalry on Dec. 2-3 when the UW heads to Minneapolis for its final road series before the new year.
The Badgers play at home in three weekends in December. Michigan Tech visits the Kohl Center Dec. 9-10 and the USA Hockey Under-18 Team comes to play an exhibition game on Friday, Dec. 16. The Badgers close out 2005 with the Badger Hockey Showdown on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 30-31.
Northern Michigan and Western Michigan from the CCHA along with Wayne State from the CHA join the Badgers in the field for the 17th-annual Showdown. It will be the fourth time that Northern Michigan skates in the tournament, with the Badgers handling the Wildcats in the tournament's championship game on each prior occasion. On the first day of this year's tournament, Northern Michigan plays Wayne State at 4 p.m., while the Badgers take on Western Michigan at 7 p.m. win or lose, Wisconsin will play in the late game on Dec. 31, also at 7 p.m.
UW begins the 2006 portion of the schedule with three consecutive weekends against 2005 Frozen Four teams. The Badgers visit Colorado College on Jan. 13-14, before returning home to face two-time defending national champion Denver on Jan. 20-21 and Border Battle opponent Minnesota on Jan. 27-28.
Wisconsin spends the entire month of February away from the Kohl Center, but does play one game in the Badger State. After visiting Minnesota Duluth Feb. 2-3, Wisconsin will take part in the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic on Feb. 11. Also the 2005-06 U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Game, the Badgers will face Ohio State on Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The game will be the third major outdoor ice hockey contest in recent memory with Michigan and Michigan State playing at MSU's Spartan Stadium on Oct. 6, 2001 and the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadians meeting on Nov. 22, 2003 in Edmonton, Alberta's Commonwealth Stadium.
Tickets for the Frozen Tundra Hockey Classic will be $24 for adults, $16 for UW students, $14 for children and $45 for indoor club seats. It is expected Lambeau Field will seat 38,000-40,000 for the event. Details on when and how tickets will be available are still being developed and will be announced later.
UW closes out February with trips to Michigan Tech (Feb. 17-18) and Minnesota State (Feb. 24-45), before completing the regular season at home against St. Cloud State on March 3-4.
Postseason play begins with the first round of the WCHA playoffs at campus sites from March 10-12, then moves on to the 2006 Red Baron WCHA Final Five from March 16-18 at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. Should the Badger season continue beyond the WCHA playoffs, NCAA regional sites include Resch Center in Green Bay, Wis., as well as sites in Grand Forks, N.D., Worcester, Mass., and Albany, N.Y., the weekend of March 24-26.
The University of Wisconsin will also play host to the 2006 NCAA Men's Frozen Four at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The event runs the weekend of April 6-8.

New season tickets go on-sale Monday, June 13 for Wisconsin's 2005-06 season. Both the Face-Off and Slap-Shot Series are $198.00 (11 games). The Face-Off Series package consists of the first game of each home series, as well as games 1 and 3 of the WCHA Playoffs (should UW host). The Slap-Shot Series package consists of the second game of each home series, as well as the U.S. Under-18 Team game and game two of the WCHA Playoffs (should UW host). Season ticket renewal applications for returning season ticket-holders will be mailed no later than June 13. The deadline for renewing season tickets is July 15. Returning season ticket-holders can renew their tickets on-line beginning Monday, June 13.
Four-game Fan's Choice Packages and group tickets (for all 2005-06 home games) go on-sale August 22. Single-game tickets for all 2005 home games go on-sale September 12, while single-game tickets for all 2006 home games will go on-sale November 7.
