COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - A total of 43 players from 18 states have been invited to the 2009 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., which runs from Aug. 7-15, as announced today by USA Hockey. Participating players are candidates for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2010 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, from Dec. 26, 2009-Jan. 5, 2010, in Saskatoon and Regina, Sask. Included in the group are four returning WCHA players in Minnesota's Aaron Ness and Jordan Schroeder and Wisconsin's Jake Gardiner and Derek Stepan.

The camp will feature practices, three games between the split U.S. squads and four games against Russia.

"We look forward to a competitive camp," said Jim Johannson, general manager of the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team and assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey. "While we've invited 43 players to the camp, there are additional players who will be evaluated as the 2009-10 season begins, particularly in the 1992 birth year. I'm pleased to be working alongside Tim Taylor in the selection process of the team's player personnel."

Returnees from the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team include forwards Tyler Johnson (Spokane, Wash.), Danny Kristo (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Jordan Schroeder (Prior Lake, Minn.) and Mitch Wahl (Seal Beach, Calif.).

Also highlighting the list of invitees are 12 players from the gold medal-winning 2009 U.S. National Under-18 Team, including forwards Ryan Bourque (Boxford, Mass.), Jerry D'Amigo (Binghamton, N.Y.), Kevin Lynch (Grosse Point, Mich.), Jeremy Morin (Auburn, N.Y.), Kyle Palmieri (Montvale, N.J.), Kenny Ryan (Franklin Village, Mich.), Drew Shore (Denver, Colo.) and A.J. Treais (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.); defensemen Cam Fowler (Farmington Hills, Mich.), Philip Samuelsson (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and William Wrenn (Anchorage, Alaska); and goaltender Jack Campbell (Port Huron, Mich.).

The camp opens on Aug. 7, with the first international game set for Aug. 11. Games will be held at the USA Rink and 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center. All practice sessions are open to the public and tickets to the international games are available through the Olympic Regional Development Authority (orda.org) in Lake Placid.

NOTES: For more information on the U.S. National Junior Team, click here ... As previously announced, Dean Blais, who was recently named the head coach at the University of Nebraska Omaha, will be the head coach the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team. In addition, John Hynes, Mark Osiecki and Joe Exter will serve as assistant coaches. Hynes recently completed his sixth season as a head coach for the USA Hockey's National Team Development Program. Osiecki has been an assistant coach for the University of Wisconsin men's ice hockey team since 2004, while Exter recently finished his second season as goaltending coach for the NTDP. In addition, Jay Varady, associate head coach of the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips, will serve as video coach. USA Hockey also announced that Scott Monaghan, director of operations for the NTDP, will serve as director of hockey operations for the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team ... Tony Granato and Mark Carlson will assist the 2010 U.S. National Junior Team coaching staff as coaches at the 2009 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp. Granato is the former head coach of the Colorado Avalanche, while Carlson just completed his 10th season as head coach and general manager of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the United States Hockey League.
