COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following its third-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four, the University of North Dakota will enter the 2007-08 season with the preseason No. 1 ranking in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll. The Fighting Sioux collected 467 points and 14 of 34 first-place votes to top the chart.

Defending national champion Michigan State University, which finished with 436 points and 14 first-place votes, is No. 2 in the poll. Last year's national runner-up, Boston College, sits in the No. 3 spot, while the University of Minnesota and Miami (Ohio) University round out the top five.

The 2007-08 regular season begins this weekend when No. 7 Clarkson University travels to St. Lawrence University Sunday (Oct. 7).

Notes: The Western Collegiate Hockey Association leads all conferences with five teams on the poll. The Central Collegiate Hockey Association has four teams ranked, while ECAC Hockey and Hockey East claim three teams on the poll...A total of 26 teams received votes...This marks the third time North Dakota has been ranked the preseason No. 1 (2000-01, 1997-98) on the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll.

ABOUT THE POLL: The 13th annual USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and USA Hockey Magazine, the most widely distributed hockey magazine in the world.
