MADISON, Wisc. - St. Cloud State (5-0-0), Denver (3-0-0) and Minnesota (4-0-0) all remain unbeaten in 2001-02 as a result of victories posted on Friday night (Oct. 26). The Huskies won 7-1 at MSU- Mankato, the host Pioneers took Alaska Anchorage, 7-2, and the Golden Gophers blanked visiting Colgate, 8-0, in non-conference play.

Elsewhere last night, Wisconsin won it's opening league game by slipping past defending MacNaughton Cup-champion North Dakota, 3-2, in Grand Forks to give head coach Jeff Sauer his 475th victory with the Badgers, while host Minnesota-Duluth improved to 3-2-0 overall with a 4-3 overtime non-league triumph over RPI.

Through games of Oct. 26, WCHA-member teams have combined for a 18-5-1 (.771) record in non- conference games and are now 87-45-10 (.648) over the past two seasons (including 2000-01). Celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2001-02, the WCHA had five teams - Minnesota (2nd), St. Cloud State (3rd), North Dakota (4th), Denver (5th) and Colorado College (6th) - ranked among the top six teams in the country in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine College Hockey Poll.
