MADISON, Wisc. - Three undefeated teams - St. Cloud State (6-0-0), Minnesota (5-0-0) and Denver (4-0-0) - who helped the Western Collegiate Hockey Association occupy five of the top six places in last week's USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll (Oct. 22), will face tough opposition in league play next weekend as they attempt to improve on their respective season-opening streaks. The (SCSU) Huskies host defending MacNaughton (WCHA) champion North Dakota this Friday (Nov. 2) and Saturday (Nov. 3), the Golden Gophers travel to much-improved Michigan Tech, and the Pioneers take on pre-season WCHA coaches' favorite Colorado College in a home-and-home series. One additional conference series this weekend finds Alaska Anchorage hosting Minnesota-Duluth while in non-conference play, Wisconsin entertains defending national champion Boston College of Hockey East while Minnesota State-Mankato welcomes College Hockey America's University of Findlay.

Heading into the first week of November, WCHA-member teams have combined for a 20-5-1 (.788) non-conference record. And coupled with last season's (2000-01) 69-40-9 (.623) non-conference mark, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association is now 89-45-10 (.653) against outside opponents over the past two seasons combined.

Of Note: In action last weekend, four teams - Denver (7-2, 3-2 vs UAA), Minnesota (8-0, 9-0 vs Colgate), Minnesota-Duluth (4-3 ot, 6-5 vs RPI) and St. Cloud State (7-1, 4-0 vs MSU) - earned two-game sweeps while North Dakota and Wisconsin split.

Among the top individual highlights were... Minnesota G Adam Hauser set a school record with his 8th career shutout on Oct. 26... DU F Lukas Dora had two goals last Friday (Oct. 26) while F Greg Barber and F Connor James had goals each night in the sweep over UAA... St. Cloud State's Mark Hartigan topped the 100 career-point plateau with four assists on the weekend while forwards Mike Doyle and Nate DiCasmirro both had hat tricks last Friday... Wisconsin G Scott Kabotoff stopped 32 of 34 shots on goal Oct. 26 to help the Badgers open their WCHA season with a 3-2 win at defending league champ North Dakota... Minnesota-Duluth F Judd Medak had seven points (3g,4a) in the two-game series sweep of RPI... Minnesota F John Pohl tied a school record with five assists in a 9-0 win over Colgate last Saturday and had seven in the series... UM's Matt Koalska also had 3-3=6 in the sweep.
