Mankato, Minn. The Minnesota State Department of Athletics will celebrate and honor the life of Anthony Ford this Saturday at the Maverick men's hockey game with Bemidji State.

Anthony, a nine-year old youth hockey player who succumbed to leukemia last April, developed a very special relationship with members of the MSU hockey team and countless others in the community.

Several pre-game and post-game events this Saturday commemorating Anthony's life have been planned.

  • A song recorded on CD by senior MSU defenseman Chad Brownlee entitled "The Hero I See" will be available for sale in Midwest Wireless Civic Center.

Proceeds from the sale of the CD will go toward the Anthony Ford Foundation.

The Anthony Ford Foundation has been established to provide financial assistance to youth hockey players in the Mankato Area Hockey Association who might not otherwise have the means to participate in youth hockey.

  • A banner honoring Anthony will be unveiled and permanently hung in the Civic Center.

  • The #99 (Anthony's favorite number) will be permanently retired.

  • A check from the proceeds from the sale of a set of Maverick game-worn jerseys from the 2006-07 season will be presented to the Anthony Ford Foundation pre-game and the winning bidders will recieve their jersey from the Mavericks post-game.
