MADISON, Wisc. - Minnesota (6-0-0), St. Cloud State (7-0-0) and Denver (5-0-0) - the top three ranked teams, respectively, in the latest USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Div. 1 College Hockey Poll - kept their season-opening unbeaten streaks alive following conference victories on Friday (Nov. 3) night. The Golden Gophers won their WCHA opener at Michigan Tech, 7-3, the Huskies defeated the visiting Fighting Sioux, 8-4, and the Pioneers were 3-2 overtime victors at Colorado College. In the other conference series being played this weekend, host Alaska Anchorage and Minnesota-Duluth skated to a tie, 2-2, on Friday evening.

In non-conference play last night, host Wisconsin downed defending national champion Boston College, 5-2, while Minnesota State-Mankato upended College Hockey America's Univ. of Findlay, 4- 1. Those two victories improved the WCHA's combined 2001-02 non-conference record to 22-5-1 (.804).

Celebrating its 50th anniversary season in 2001-02, the WCHA had five teams - Minnesota (1st), St. Cloud State (2nd), Denver (3rd), North Dakota (7th) and Colorado College (8th) - ranked among the top 10 teams in the country in the Oct. 29th USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll.
