MADISON, Wisc. - The St. Cloud State University St. Cloud State University St. Cloud State University St. Cloud State University St. Cloud State University Huskies, on the strength of a weekend sweep over defending WCHA champion North Dakota and riding a season-opening eight-game winning streak, are the nation's new No. 1-ranked Division I men's college hockey team in both weekly polls released November 5th. Coach Craig Dahl's club garnered 16 of 19 first place votes in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll and 36 of 40 first place votes in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll. SCSU plays host to Colorado College this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 9-10).
Right behind SCSU are two more undefeated Western Collegiate Hockey Association teams with the University of Minnesota University of Minnesota University of Minnesota University of Minnesota University of Minnesota (6-0-1) ranked second in both polls and the University of Denver University of Denver University of Denver University of Denver University of Denver (6-0-0) third in both weekly rankings. This weekend, coach Don Lucia's Golden Gophers host MSU-Mankato while coach George Gwozdecky's Pioneers travel to Michigan Tech.
Celebrating it's 50th anniversary season and home to 31 national championship teams since 1951,
the WCHA has five teams ranked among the nation's best for the week of Nov. 5-11. In addition to
SCSU, Minnesota and Denver in the 1, 2, and 3 spots, North Dakota is 8th (USCHO.com) and 10th
(USA Today/AHM) while Colorado College is 12th (USA Today/AHM) and 13th (USCHO.com). Also
