MADISON, Wis. - The Western Collegiate Hockey Association today announced it's players of the week for the period Nov. 10-16, 2009. They are forwards Evan Trupp of the University of North Dakota and Sean Wiles of the University of Alaska Anchorage as co-offensive players of the week, University of Minnesota goaltender Alex Kangas on defense, and Colorado College forward William Rapuzzi as rookie.

 

Red Baron® WCHA Offensive Players of the Week

A pair of third-year forwards who played key roles for their respective teams last weekend - Evan Trupp of the University of North Dakota and Sean Wiles of the University of Alaska Anchorage - are Red Baron® WCHA co-Offensive Players of the Week for Nov. 10-16, 2009.

Trupp, a 5-8, 164-pound junior from Anchorage, Alaska, scored three goals - including a game-winner - to help visiting North Dakota to a two-game conference road sweep at Michigan Tech on Nov. 6-7. He tallied once in a 4-2 win last Friday and then came back with a two more goals on Saturday, including the game-winner, as the Sioux completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory.

In addition to his three goals, Trupp also fired seven shots on goal in the series and earned a +2 plus/minus rating.

Wiles, a 6-4, 211-pound junior from Beloit, Wisconsin, also scored three goals over the Nov. 6-7 weekend, including two in Alaska Anchorage's 7-3 WCHA victory over visiting Denver last Saturday (Nov. 7). His first goal of the game evened the score at 1-1.

He had the first goal of the game last Friday in the Seawolves' 3-2, one-goal loss to the Pioneers, and also had six shots on goal in the series while earning a +4 plus/minus rating.

Also nominated were: Bill Sweatt, F, CC; Rhett Rakhshani, F, DU; Patrick White, F, UM; and Blake Geoffrion, F, UW.

 

Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

University of Minnesota goaltender Alex Kangas, who stopped 73 of 79 shots on goal in a two-game series at Wisconsin last weekend, including a career-high 45 last Saturday night, has been chosen as the Red Baron® WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 10-16, 2009.

A 6-2, 195-pound junior from Rochester, Minnesota, Kangas also blanked the host Badgers on all eight of their power-play chances in the series and posted a .924 saves percentage. In a 5-2 conference road victory for the Golden Gophers over Wisconsin last Saturday (Nov. 7) night, Kangas made a career-high 45 saves, stopping all 10 of the Badgers' power-play shots and all 17 shots on goal he faced in the opening period.

Kangas added 28 saves in a 4-2 setback last Friday (Nov. 6) and finished the weekend with a total of 73 saves on 79 shots on goal. He currently ranks 11th in the country with a .933 season saves percentage.

Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week

William Rapuzzi, Fr., F, Colorado College

William Rapuzzi, a first-year forward at Colorado College, is the Red Baron® WCHA Rookie of the Week for Nov. 10-16, 2009 as a result of his efforts in a league series against visiting Minnesota Duluth last weekend.

A 5-11, 180-pound freshman from Anchorage, Alaska, Rapuzzi scored a pair of goals, including a game-winner, and added an assist for three scoring points as host Colorado College split a pair of games with the Bulldogs.

After scoring a go-ahead goal for the host Tigers in the second period of an eventual one-goal, 4-3 loss last Friday (Nov. 6), Rapuzzi came back to notch the game-winning goal and add an assist to help Colorado College to a 6-2 triumph over Minnesota Duluth last Saturday evening (Nov. 7).

In addition to his three points in the series, Rapuzzi also fired six shots on goal and earned a +3 plus/minus rating.

Also nominated this week were: Zach Budish, F, UM; Danny Kristo, F, UND; and Craig Smith, F, UW.
