MADISON, Wisc. - And then there were two. Second-ranked Minnesota (8-0-1 overall) and third-ranked Denver (8-0-0 overall) ran through another weekend of competition Nov. 9-10 with two-game conference sweeps over Minnesota State-Mankato and Michigan Tech, respectively, to remain undefeated on the 2001-02 season.

Coach Don Lucia's Golden Gophers won 5-3 and 4-3 at home over the Mavericks to move their season-opening undefeated streak to nine games while the Pioneers posted 9-2 and 3-1 road decisions over Michigan Tech as DU head coach George Gwozdecky marked his 300th career victory on Nov. 9 and the Pioneers vaulted to 8-0-0. League-leading and No. 1-ranked St. Cloud State (9-1-0 overall), meanwhile, upped its season-opening victory streak to nine last Friday evening with a 6-1 win over Colorado College before the visiting Tigers battled back on Saturday (Nov. 10) to hand the Huskies their first loss, 4-3.

In the only other series contested this past weekend, Wisconsin (5-3-0 overall) claimed 5-1 and 4-1conference victories at Minnesota-Duluth to improve to 3-1-0 in league play. Both Alaska Anchorage and North Dakota were idle.

Upcoming Western Collegiate Hockey Association series for this Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov. 17 find Minnesota hosting Minnesota-Duluth, North Dakota traveling to Minnesota State-Mankato, Wisconsin entertaining Michigan Tech, and St. Cloud State flying to Alaska Anchorage. In non-conference play, Colorado College hosts ECAC-member Clarkson University. Unbeaten Denver, meanwhile, will have the week off.

Through games of Nov. 11th, WCHA-member teams have combined for a 23-6-1 (.783) non-conference record. Coupled with last season's 69-40-9 (.623) non-conference slate, the WCHA is 92-46-10 (.655) vs outside opponents the past two seasons.
