WCHA Offensive Player of the Week
John Pohl, F, Minnesota

University of Minnesota senior captain and forward John Pohl, who factored in both game-winning goals and extended his point-scoring streak to 10 games while helping the Golden Gophers to a two-game series sweep over visiting conference rival Minnesota State-Mankato last weekend, has been selected as the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week for Nov. 12-18.

A 6-0, 191-pounder from Red Wing, Minn., Pohl produced four points on two goals and a pair of game-winning assists as second-ranked Minnesota extended it's unbeaten streak to nine games with 5-3 (Nov. 9) and 4-2 (Nov. 10) victories over the Mavericks at Mariucci Arena.

In the process, Pohl also extended his personal point-scoring streak to 10 games during which he has produced 10 goals, 17 assists and 27 points.

On the 2001-02 season, Pohl shares the overall scoring lead among WCHA players (with St. Cloud State's Mark Hartigan) with eight goals, 13 assists and 21 points in nine games - an average of 2.33 points per game. Pohl is a St. Louis (NHL) draftee. Minnesota, now 8-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the WCHA, next plays host to Minnesota-Duluth on Nov. 16-17.

Other nominees were: Mark Cullen, F, CC, Greg Barber, F, DU, Colin Murphy, F, MTU, and Matt Hussey, F, UW.

WCHA Defensive Player of the Week
Scott Kabotoff, G, Wisconsin

Junior goaltender Scott Kabotoff, who stopped 82 of 84 shots on goal while backstopping the University of Wisconsin to a road series sweep over Minnesota-Duluth this past weekend, has been honored as the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for Nov. 12-18.

From Sherwood Park, Alberta, the 6-0, 175-pound Kabotoff recorded a .976 saves percentage in the two wins, blanked the Bulldogs in four of six periods while yielding just one even-strength goal, had double-digit save totals in five of the six periods, and helped hold his opponents to just one power-play goal in 14 chances.

In a 5-1 victory last Friday (Nov. 9) at the DECC, Kabotoff allowed just a first period power-play goal while making 43 saves - 17 of which came in the third period. Then on Saturday (Nov. 10) night, he permitted one goal in the third period while registering 39 saves - including 19 in the first period.

On the season, Kabotoff leads the WCHA (league games) in both goals-against average at 1.33 and saves percentage at .966 and is 3-0-0. Overall, he is 4-2-0 with a 2.33 gaa and .936 sv%.

Wisconsin (5-3-0 overall, 3-1-0 WCHA) next hosts Michigan Tech in Madison on Nov. 16-17.
