MADISON, Wisc. - No. 1-ranked University of Minnesota (10-0-1 overall) improved it's season- opening unbeaten streak to 11 games over the weekend by virtue of a 5-1, 5-3 conference home-ice sweep over Minnesota-Duluth. Coach Don Lucia's Golden Gophers, the nation's top-ranked Div. I men's college hockey team in both of last week's national polls, also moved to 5-0-1 in WCHA play.

League-leading and third-ranked St. Cloud State (11-1-0 overall), meanwhile, won twice on the road at Alaska Anchorage, 5-2 and 4-2, to maintain a six-point lead in the standings over unbeaten and second-ranked Denver (8-0-0 overall) and a seven-point advantage over Minnesota, although the Huskies have played four more games than either of those two clubs.

In other WCHA action on Nov. 16-17, defending MacNaughton Cup champion North Dakota gained three league points with a 6-3 win and 2-2 tie at Minnesota State-Mankato while Wisconsin and Michigan Tech split their series in Madison (MTU 1-0, UW 5-0). And in non-conference play, Colorado con't on p. 3
