ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The #6 University of Minnesota posted a 2-0 victory over #5 St. Cloud State University on Friday, Nov. 17, in the National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. Minnesota's Troy Riddle scored the game winner at 9:57 of the second period with an assist from Jeff Taffe. The Gophers added an insurance goal at 0:38 of the third when John Pohl scored on an assist from Jordan Leopold and Erik Westrum.
The loss drops SCSU's record to 6-2-1, 3-2-0 WCHA, while Minnesota improves to 8-1-2, 6-1-2 WCHA. Both goaltenders played outstanding games with Adam Hauser gaining the shutout and 25 saves. SCSU's Scott Meyer had 27 saves in the game as UM outshot SCSU 29-25.
Of note, UM (0-of-8) and SCSU (0-of-6) were both held scoreless on the power
play. In the game, UM was called for 11 penalites (22 minutes) while SCSU
had 12 for 43 minutes. The two teams will square off again on Nov. 18, at
Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
